DIY 'Let It Snow' Burlap Banner (Free Printables)

Alright, you guys..I know you're gonna be shocked, but I'm back with another burlap project.  I made a little Let It Snow burlap banner to get me through the winter, even after I take all the Christmas decorations down (that's the worst, isn't it?).

I'm making this bunting super duper easy for you, by giving you the free printables.  Even if you don't have burlap, this would look awesome printed on paper.  Alright, lets get started.

{Easy Printed} Merry Christmas Burlap Banner

A friend of mine asked me to make her a burlap banner reading 'Merry Christmas' that she could hang on her mantle.   There are tons of variations on the Christmas bunting, but she wanted her pretty simple: just a red letter per flag with a Christmas tree separating the two words.

She also requested that all of the flags be in one straight line, not two tiered like many Merry Christmas banners are.  But as it turns out making the single row of flags required the rope to be 75 inches long - way too long for the mantle.  Obviously, we reverted to plan B and went with two banners.

I turned to my trusty Powerpoint to design the flags.  I always start with a simple triangle outline and copy and pasted it repeatedly, to ensure that all of my flags are the same size.   Then I just changed the letters and moved them around slightly to center them in the flags.  For this project I put two flags per slideshow.  They are still a good size - about 6" x 6.5".

I grabbed a Christmas tree icon from my favorite PicMonkey and used it to design a flag the same way I did with the letters.

DIY Burlap Christmas Pillows

So me and burlap are like BFFs right about now.  We've been spending some major time together...most recently I created these cute burlap Christmas pillows.   They were super easy and fast to make and they're great for both indoors or outdoors.

Of course, I turned to my trusty Powerpoint to create the design. There are tons of free Christmas fonts out there on the good ol' WWW... so find your favorite, download it and install it into your font book...then get to work.

I started with the 'Jingle' pillow inspired by Pottery Barn's jingle bell pillow.   When you're creating your design, leave a little space around the outside so you can sew it onto the pillow without stitching on the design.

When my design was ready to go, I printed it right on a piece of burlap.  If you're a loyal 2IY reader (you aren't? You totally should be!!!) you know the drill by now about how to print on burlap.  If not, it's cool I forgive you just go >> here << and learn how to print on burlap using your home printer.

DIY Monogrammed Burlap Pillows

I admit it my front porch is lame right now...I've got a pumpkin and a flag and a pink solo cup where my five year old is trying to grow a tree out of those little whirlygigs she peeled off the street.  I'm not even kidding.  That's the extent of the excitement on my front porch at the moment.

I'm on the hunt for a bench, but it's taking WAY longer than I'd like to find one at a thrift store.  I tried the headboard bench thing, but that was just a giant fail because you need like 5 hands to do it and I only have two and the Mr. wasn't home...

Anyway, I'm living vicariously through my friend whose front porch is looking more fall-like everyday so, of course, I was honored when she asked me to re-cover a set of pillows for her bench.

2IY: The Best DIY of August (and a sneak peek of what's working in September)

August was a busy month for us here at 2IY.   Aside from the ongoing $100 bathroom makeover which included the pallet wood hanging bathroom shelf and a Pottery Barn inspired rope-wrapped dollar store trash can we also managed to fit in a few other fun DIY projects.   Here's a quick recap of some of our favorite from the past month.

Melissa's personalized wood pallet sign makes a huge statement in her dining room and for very little cost.   The best part of that project was making the homemade chalk paint which proved a huge success for this project and the painted nightstand-turned-hall table makeover.

Mr and Mrs Pillows and '&' Pillows

In addition to getting my kid on the school bus for the very.first.time today, trying to get this blog (and another) off the ground, and finishing my $100 powder room makeover (yes, it's still in a state of incomplete) I'm also trying to build up my Etsy shop, Cuteness Cubed.  That's part of why I've been a little thin over here...I've been working over there while trying to keep my two mini bosses happy. ;)

I'm really excited to show you what I've been working on...and yes, I've been keeping my sewing machine busy!

I love the rustic feel of them and how they can be personalized.  The neutral tones of these babies (did I mention they're Pottery Barn knockoffs?!) lets them fit into any style and color scheme.

DIY Bathing Suit Cover Up for Girls (from a beach towel)

If you're looking to make a cute DIY bathing suit cover up for a little girl - you're in luck.  I have an easy tutorial on how to make a bathing suit cover up out of a full size beach towel.  The beauty of this cover up is that it doubles as a towel so no more towel taking over the beach or pool bag and no more towels falling off or dragging on the ground.

Here's what you're going to do:

Lay your beach towel out in front of you with one of the long edges in front of you. Working on one of the short sides, cut right next to the seam so the seam is included in what you cut.  Keep the piece you just cut off - you're going to use it later.
